US and Canadian “Old Big Three” Auto Industry

US and Canadian “old big three” auto industry. It is justified to criticize the management of the US and Canadian “old big three” auto industry, for the lack of foresight, and not to forget the responsibility of their boards. However society should have a problem when the critique comes from the political and government establishment that over the past three decades has had more responsibility for the auto industry’s demise than the industry itself. Whose house is of glass, must not throw stones at another. I can’t imagine any reasonable thinking person believes that political mocking of the auto Industry’s management for flying private Jets to Washington will solve anything. I trust such populist politics does not set the tone

DO Vice Chair Cloud the Issues

Mr. Derek Noske, the Vice Chair of Destination Osoyoos Corporation, The letter of January 7, 2009, from Mr. Derek Noske, the Vice Chair of Destination Osoyoos Corporation, the Town of Osoyoos Economic development contractor, continues to bolster the positives and cloud the issues that really matter to society. What really matters to society is whether the Town’s economic development model meets the standard society should expect as it faces the challenges of the future. I do completely agree with the main premise in Mr. Noske’s letter. It is of course the Town Council that carries the accountability for the economic development model and contract with Destination Osoyoos. The reason I wrote that Mr. Eastbury’s and society’s focus should not be

Destination Osoyoos Chairman’s Rebuke

Destination Osoyoos Chairman’s rebuke of the gentleman’s critique of Destination Osoyoos pamphlet “Report to the Community”, clouds the issues that really matter to society. Referring to Destination Osoyoos Chairman’s response December 17, 2008 to the gentleman’s letter in Osoyoos Times December 10, 2008, the gentleman’s letter offers valid points that don’t deserve to be dismissed — but society’s focus should not be Destination Osoyoos. Destination Osoyoos is doing what the private sector is supposed to do in pursuit of revenue and profit. They market their service to potential customers in the marketplace. Destination Osoyoos’ customer is the Town Council and government, and Town Council and government’s decision to fund Destination Osoyoos is a political decision. Hence, society’s concern should not

True Knowledge is to Know the Extent of One‘s Ignorance

True knowledge is to know the extent of one‘s ignorance. Faroese traditional hunt of Pilot whales is used as propaganda to criticize Denmark and the EU. If it is not cartoons, it is Pilot whales. Regrettably, supposedly educated people in Canada and the US and other democracies are joining in and fueling the propaganda. If their concern is the Pilot whales, then the collaboration with the propagandists contradicts its own purpose. The propagandists may be beyond reasoning. But perhaps people that support them in Canada and elsewhere are not, and this therefore could help them to increase understanding that could help society and the Pilot whales. Faroe Islands is a Danish jurisdiction but self governed, located in the North Atlantic

To MP Atamanenko Canada Should Work with U.S.

Open reply, to the open letter from Honourable Alex Atamanenko, Member of Parliament, of February 4, 2009, to Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Minister of the Environment. In which Mr. Atamanenko urged Canada, First Nations, and British Columbia to unequivocally oppose Washington State, to build a hydroelectric dam on the Similkameen River at Shenker Bend, near Oroville WA, and Osoyoos British Columbia, BC. Similkameen River starts at Manning Park British Columbia and crosses in to the US at Nighthawk, WA and is a tributary to Okanogan River (Okanagan on the Canadian side) and the Columbia River. Depending on the scale and water storage, the size of the dam could more or less affect Canada and British Columbia and that should be

Election 2008 – Should the ‘First to the Post’ System be Replaced?

Election 2008 – should the ‘first to the post’ system be replaced? Democracy and the standard of living in the society that makes up the Canadian economy depends on understanding, produced by research. Understanding that emerges in society, by education, a free press and a free flow of information, vigorously discussed. Election 2008 should spur a vigorous debate in society about the ‘first to post’ single seat election system – the winner takes all. Raising the question, should the system be replaced with a proportional election system and why? As someone has put it, democracy gives society the right to replace one rascal with another rascal. Well, in a democracy at least the rascals know they can lose their job.
